Community Services Report

SOCARE IND, BANGALORE

JOIN US IN OUR JOURNEY SOCARE IND,is a unique Social Organisation functioning as a Public Trust since 1999. The founder Trustees were the late Shri. Venkataraghavachari Mani ( a retired AGM of the Reserve Bank of India) and his wife Smt. Saroji Mani. The main object of the Organisation, which runs purely on secular lines, is to give comprehensive care ( food, shelter and education and health care) to the children of life term convicts serving sentences in various jails across Karnataka. These innocent and unfortunate children, who apart from being mostly from the lowest economic and social strata, also face the ignominy of 'stigma' attached to them in the society. They are, therefore, needed to be sheltered and looked after with special sense of social responsibility and sensitivity. SOCARE IND , as an unique HOME for such special category of children has taken up this social cause as a challenge and rendering service successfully ,thanks to the awareness and positive response from individual as well as institutional donors, like minded people and well wishers like you.

The responsibility of perpetuating the cause of SOCARE IND, in the true spirit and tradition of its noble founders, is now being shouldered by a team of dedicated Trustees, who are all retired senior citizens working on honorary basis. A retired Director General of Police ( Karnataka) is also actively contributing to our cause as an Advisor.

As the famous saying goes that the journey to thousand miles start with the first step, SOCARE IND started with just two children in the year 1999, by the old couple in their residence has now a compliment of 171 children, ( 110 boys and 61 girls), mostly in the age group of 7 to 17 years of age. The total strength is expected to cross 200 during the current year including in Gulbarga where SOCARE IND commissioned a branch in June,2011.

A new hostel building is under construction in Laggare, Peenya, Bangalore with the active support of Sri SharadaPeetam, Sringeri . It is a matter of satisfaction that most of the children are excelling well in their studies and extra curricular activities. Last year two of our girls acquired B.Com degrees with first class marks. They are now pursuing the CA course with some outside support. Similarly, some other children passed SSC and PUC exams with distinctions and have been continuing their degree courses including Diploma in Engineering with the active support of SOCARE IND. Some of our boys are doing well in sports and Korean Martial Arts. Four of them are National and Asian Champions in martial arts. It is our experience that given a total break and proper directions these underprivileged children are capable of excelling well in life no matter what their background is.

We invite you to JOIN US IN OUR JOURNEY by contributing generously ,both financially and materially to ensure that these children join the mainstream of our Society . Let us together illuminate the lives of these innocent children who are pushed into the epicenter of darkness for no fault of theirs.

All the Trustees are working hard to generate revenue for the successful completion of the New Hostel Building and making SOCARE IND a model NGO that provides best facilities to the children.

We also propose to build a hostel for both boys and girls in Gulbarga where a land has already been allotted by the GULBARGA DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITIES for which payments were made by us last year. We are confident that our building in Gulbarga will be ready by June/July 2014.
